Paula Hammond

Chemical Engineer • Scientist • Researcher

Paula Hammond is a distinguished scientist and a professor who is recognized for her work in the assembly of macromolecules to generate nanostructured materials. We help her convey her story through a documentary about her groundbreaking discoveries and life.

Excerpt from my work with Paula Hammond and the Science History Institute.

Nanoscale Biological Coating

One of Paula Hammond’s lab inventions is a spray coating that helps blood clot almost instantly, a technology that saves thousands of lives and limbs on the battlefield every year.

Polymers for Revolutionary Drug-Delivery Systems

Paula Hammond created polymers for revolutionary drug-delivery systems. Chemotherapy drugs are delivered through nanoparticles disguised as water molecules so they can “sneak” past our immune system and lodge in tumor tissues to do their work.

LayerBio

In 2013 Hammond co-founded a biotechnology company named LayerBio, which develops novel drug-delivery products in areas as diverse as ophthalmology, wound care, and tendon repair.
