Lois Smith
Pediatric Ophthalmologist • Molecular biologist
Dr. Smith developed a mouse model of oxygen induced retinopathy which is now widely used for elucidating the basic mechanism of retinopathy of prematurity, diabetic retinopathy and aspects of macular degeneration. It was a great opportunity interviewing her for a documentary about her career and works.
Oxygen Induced Retinopathies
Dr. Lois Smith helped in the development and standardization of oxygen induced retinopathies. It provides data to help control the fuel-air ratio in the combustion process. It’s important in understanding the disease in human infants and also used in treating premature babies.
